Product Description
Metric Bonded Seal / Dowty-Style Washers – M14, M16 & M18
These metric bonded sealing washers provide a compact, high-pressure seal for compatible hydraulic and fluid connections.
Often searched for as bonded seal washers, bonded sealing washers, Dowty washers, or Dowty-style seals, they combine a metal outer ring with a bonded nitrile rubber sealing element.
JBtuned stocks these metric bonded seals in M14, M16, and M18 sizes for use with compatible power steering, hydraulic, and other high-pressure fluid fittings.
Available Metric Sizes
- M14 Bonded Seal Washer
- M16 Bonded Seal Washer
- M18 Bonded Seal Washer
Select the washer size that matches the metric fitting and sealing surface being used.
High-Pressure Bonded Seal Design
The nitrile rubber sealing element is permanently bonded to the metal outer ring.
When properly installed in a compatible application, the metal ring supports the rubber sealing element while the bonded center provides the fluid seal.
This style of sealing washer is commonly used where a compact and dependable seal is needed on hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, power steering, oil, fuel, and other fluid connections.
Common Applications
Metric bonded sealing washers are used in a wide range of automotive and industrial fluid systems, including:
- Hydraulic power steering systems
- Metric-to-AN adapter fittings
- High-pressure hydraulic connections
- Oil and lubrication systems
- Fuel-system connections where the materials and fitting design are appropriate
- Pneumatic and other fluid-system applications
Always confirm that the thread size, sealing surface, and sealing material are appropriate for your specific application.
Matching JBtuned Metric-to-6AN Power Steering Adapters
These bonded seal washers are commonly paired with JBtuned stainless-steel metric-to-6AN power steering adapters.
We offer matching adapter fittings in all three washer sizes:
M14 x 1.5 to -6AN Adapter

M16 x 1.5 to -6AN Adapter
Using an M16 connection? View the JBtuned M16 x 1.5 to -6AN O-Ring Power Steering Adapter – Stainless Steel.
M18 x 1.5 to -6AN Adapter
Using an M18 connection? View the JBtuned M18 x 1.5 to -6AN O-Ring Power Steering Adapter – Stainless Steel.
Which Size Do I Need?
The washer size should match the metric thread size of the fitting or port:
- M14 fitting or port: select M14
- M16 fitting or port: select M16
- M18 fitting or port: select M18
Thread diameter alone does not determine whether a bonded sealing washer is appropriate. The fitting and mating surface must be designed to seal against a washer or bonded seal.
If you are unsure which size or sealing method your application requires, contact JBtuned before ordering.
Bonded Seal vs. Standard Washer
A bonded sealing washer is different from a standard flat metal washer.
The metal outer ring provides support while the bonded nitrile inner section creates the fluid seal. This makes the washer suitable for many applications where a normal metal washer alone would not provide an adequate hydraulic seal.
Bonded Seal vs. O-Ring
Bonded sealing washers and O-rings can both be used to seal high-pressure fluid connections, but they rely on different sealing surfaces and fitting designs.
Use the sealing method intended for the fitting and port being installed. A bonded washer should not automatically be substituted for an O-ring, crush washer, flare, or other sealing method unless the connection is designed for it.
