    Product Description

AEM 50-1200 340 LPH E85-Compatible High Flow In-Tank Fuel Pump

The AEM 50-1200 is a high-flow 340 LPH in-tank fuel pump designed for performance gasoline, ethanol and methanol fuel systems. Its compact 39mm body and offset inlet make it a useful option for applications that need substantially more fuel capacity than a traditional 255 LPH pump without moving to the larger 39/50mm 400+ series pump body.

AEM individually tests the 50-1200 to flow 340 LPH at 40 PSI. The pump is compatible with gasoline, ethanol fuels through E100 and methanol fuels through M100.

    AEM 50-1200 Specifications

    • Part Number: 50-1200

    • Pump Type: High-flow in-tank electric fuel pump
    • Pump Body Diameter: 39mm
    • Inlet Configuration: Offset inlet
    • Pressure Relief Valve Activation: 80 PSI
    • Current Draw at 40 PSI: 12 amps at 13.5 volts
    • Current Draw at 80 PSI: 15 amps at 13.5 volts
    • Recommended Fuse: 20 amps at 13.5 volts
    • Voltage Range: 6-18 volts
    • Impeller: Single-scroll ceramic turbine

    E85, E100 and Methanol Compatible

The AEM 50-1200 is designed for alcohol-based fuels as well as gasoline. AEM tests this pump for compatibility with ethanol fuels through E100, methanol fuels through M100 and gasoline.

Fuel-pump compatibility is only one part of building an alcohol-compatible fuel system. Fuel lines, filters, regulators, injectors, seals, fittings and other components must also be compatible with the fuel being used.

What Comes With the AEM 50-1200?

AEM currently supplies the 50-1200 as a universal in-tank fuel-pump package that includes the components needed to adapt the pump to many OEM-style hanger arrangements.

    • AEM 50-1200 340 LPH fuel pump
    • Fuel-pump pre-filter / strainer
    • Electrical flying lead / connector
    • Rubber pump isolator sleeve
    • Pump end isolator / end cap

The 50-1200 is a universal fuel pump, not a complete vehicle-specific drop-in assembly. The supplied filter, mounting components and wiring may not be correct for every vehicle or fuel-pump hanger.

Fuel Pressure and Electrical Supply Matter

A fuel pump should not be selected by its advertised flow number alone. Fuel pressure, voltage at the pump, fuel type, injector demand and the rest of the fuel system all affect how much fuel the pump can actually supply.

AEM publishes a current draw of approximately 12 amps at 40 PSI and 13.5 volts, increasing to approximately 15 amps at 80 PSI. This is why the electrical supply, wiring, relay and circuit protection need to be sized appropriately for a high-flow pump.

Fuel-pump flow also decreases as operating pressure increases. A boosted fuel system operating at high total fuel pressure places a different demand on the pump than the same engine operating near base fuel pressure.

How Much Horsepower Can the AEM 340 Support?

There is no single horsepower number that applies to every AEM 50-1200 installation. Fuel type, base fuel pressure, boost pressure, electrical voltage, injector demand and engine fuel consumption all change how much power a given amount of pump flow can support.

E85 and methanol generally require substantially more fuel volume than gasoline for the same engine output, so pump selection should be based on the actual fuel-flow requirements of the combination rather than a single advertised horsepower figure.

AEM 340 vs. Walbro 255 and Larger 400+ Pumps

The AEM 50-1200 fills a useful position between the traditional Walbro 255 and the larger 39/50mm 400+ pump family.

    • Walbro 255: Compact 39mm gasoline pump with a 255 LPH published flow rating
    • AEM 50-1200: Compact 39mm pump with 340 LPH published flow and gasoline / ethanol / methanol compatibility
    • Walbro 400+ Family: Larger 39/50mm pump body with higher-flow options for applications requiring additional fuel capacity

The AEM 340 is particularly useful when E85 compatibility and more fuel volume than a traditional 255 are needed, but the build does not require one of the larger 400, 450, 525 or 535 pumps.

Installing the AEM 340 in a Honda Civic or Acura Integra?

The AEM 50-1200 is a universal fuel pump rather than a Honda-specific drop-in assembly, but its compact 39mm body places it in the smaller high-flow pump group used with many OEM-style Honda fuel-pump hangers.

If you are upgrading a supported Honda Civic or Acura Integra OEM fuel-pump hanger, take a look at the:

JBtuned Civic / Integra OEM Fuel Pump Hanger Upgrade Kit

For the JBtuned hanger kit, the AEM 50-1200 belongs in the 255 / 300-Series & Smaller Fuel Pump group used for similar 320 / 340 / 360-style aftermarket pumps.

The smaller-pump hanger configuration is available with 6AN or 8AN feed and includes a dedicated 6AN return, upgraded two-wire electrical bulkhead and submersible PTFE in-tank plumbing sized for the selected pump.

This allows the OEM fuel-pump hanger to be upgraded along with the pump instead of retaining the original small fuel and electrical connections when the rest of the vehicle is being converted to a higher-flow AN fuel system.

Compare JBtuned High-Flow In-Tank Fuel Pumps

JBtuned carries several in-tank fuel pumps for different fuel types, flow requirements and physical pump configurations.

Before Installing a High-Flow Fuel Pump

A high-flow fuel pump is only one part of the complete fuel system. Make sure the pump wiring, electrical supply, filtration, fuel lines, regulator, injectors, fittings and seals are capable of supporting the required fuel flow and fuel type.

The AEM 50-1200 is compatible with gasoline, ethanol and methanol fuels, but every component in the complete fuel system must also be compatible with the fuel being used.
