Product Description
The JBtuned Honda B-Series VTEC Coil-on-Plug (COP) Adapter Plate provides the mechanical mounting solution for converting compatible Honda and Acura B-Series VTEC engines from a distributor-based ignition system to individual coil-on-plug ignition.
Designed for B16 and B18C-style B-Series VTEC valve covers, the plate securely positions compatible individual ignition coils over the spark plugs while creating a clean, finished installation across the top of the engine.
The JBtuned COP plate can be used with both traditional OBD1 coil-on-plug conversion systems and modern standalone engine-management systems. The plate handles the physical mounting of the ignition coils; the ECU, COP controller, wiring, triggering strategy, and tuning are selected separately according to the vehicle and engine-management system being used.

Convert a Honda B-Series VTEC Engine to Coil-on-Plug Ignition
Factory Honda B-Series engines use a distributor-based ignition system. A coil-on-plug conversion replaces the distributor's high-voltage ignition distribution with individual ignition coils mounted directly over the spark plugs.
The JBtuned B-Series COP adapter plate provides the physical mounting structure required to securely position those individual coils on a compatible B-Series VTEC valve cover.
This makes the plate useful whether the ignition system is being controlled by an older OBD1 COP conversion board or by a modern standalone ECU capable of directly controlling smart ignition coils.
B16 / B18C B-Series VTEC Fitment
The plate is designed specifically around the Honda B-Series VTEC valve-cover layout used on engines such as the B16 and B18C families.
Common applications include B-Series VTEC engines found in or swapped into vehicles such as:
- Honda Civic
- Honda Civic Si
- Honda Del Sol VTEC
- Acura Integra GS-R
- Acura Integra Type R
- B-Series swapped Honda and Acura chassis
Fitment should be verified according to the valve cover and cylinder-head configuration being used rather than vehicle chassis alone.
Compatible K-Series / RSX and S2000-Style Ignition Coils
The JBtuned COP plate is designed to securely mount compatible individual smart ignition coils commonly used in Honda coil-on-plug conversions.
Compatible coil options include K-Series / RSX-style ignition coils such as Honda / Denso 30520-RRA-007 as well as compatible S2000-style ignition coils.
Because aftermarket ignition coils can vary in body shape and dimensions, verify coil compatibility when using a non-OEM replacement or an ignition coil that differs from the common Honda / Denso designs.
Works with Traditional and Modern COP Control Systems
The JBtuned adapter plate is not tied to one specific ECU or coil-on-plug controller.
The plate handles the mechanical side of the conversion by mounting the ignition coils to the B-Series VTEC engine. Coil control can then be provided by the properly configured engine-management system being used on the vehicle.
Depending on the build, this may include systems such as:
- Hondata CPR / S300-based coil-on-plug systems
- Apollo Tuning and other compatible OBD1 COP conversion boards
- HondaRulez / COPMini systems
- FuelTech standalone engine-management systems
- Link ECU engine-management systems
- Haltech standalone engine-management systems
- ECUMaster standalone engine-management systems
- Other ECUs capable of properly controlling the selected smart ignition coils
Compatibility with the plate does not automatically mean a particular ECU or controller is plug-and-play with every B-Series engine. The ignition system must still be correctly wired, triggered, configured, and tuned for the engine-management system being used.
Traditional OBD1 COP Conversion vs Modern Standalone ECU
There are now several ways to control coil-on-plug ignition on a Honda B-Series engine.
Traditional OBD1 COP systems commonly retain an OBD1 Honda ECU and use an additional COP control board or module to drive the individual ignition coils.
Modern standalone ECU systems can often control compatible smart ignition coils directly when sufficient ignition outputs and the correct triggering strategy are available.
In either configuration, the JBtuned COP adapter plate performs the same job: securely mounting the individual ignition coils to the B-Series VTEC valve cover.
6061-T6 Aluminum Construction
The JBtuned B-Series COP plate is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum for a rigid, durable mounting structure that keeps the ignition coils securely positioned on the engine.
The plate is then anodized for a durable finished surface and is available in either black anodized or clear anodized finishes.
Unbranded by Design
The COP adapter plate sits prominently across the top of the valve cover, so JBtuned intentionally leaves the exterior free of oversized logos and advertising.
Unbranded by design—because the part should complete your build, not compete with it.
The clean exterior allows the ignition conversion to look like a cohesive part of the engine bay rather than another component covered in branding.
Complete the Distributor Side of the COP Conversion
Converting to individual ignition coils also creates the opportunity to remove the unnecessary high-voltage distributor components while retaining the distributor housing and internal sensors required by many B-Series engine-management configurations.
For a cleaner finished installation, pair the COP plate with the JBtuned Honda Distributor Block-Off Cap for Coil-on-Plug Conversions.
The plate and distributor block-off cap are sold separately and can be used individually. When used together, they provide the two primary JBtuned mechanical components for cleaning up and physically converting the B-Series ignition system to a coil-on-plug layout.
What Is Included?
- One JBtuned B-Series VTEC Coil-on-Plug Adapter Plate
- Required plate mounting nuts and bolts
Ignition coils, ECU, COP controller, ignition wiring, distributor block-off cap, spark plugs, and other ignition components are not included.
Installation Notes
Installation requires removal of the existing ignition components necessary for the selected coil-on-plug conversion and installation of compatible individual ignition coils.
The plate should be installed using the supplied mounting hardware and the ignition coils should sit securely and correctly over the spark plugs without binding or excessive preload.
The electrical side of the conversion must be completed according to the ECU, COP controller, ignition-coil type, engine trigger configuration, and tuning strategy being used.
After installation, verify ignition-coil seating, wiring security, trigger synchronization, ignition timing, and ECU configuration before operating the engine under load.
